WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Wilfred W. Avery, 94, of 225 Adams St., Brooklyn, N.Y., died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, in Brooklyn. He was the husband of the late Phyllis Burghardt Douglass of Williamstown.
Born in Guyana on Oct. 10, 1917, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Avery.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Avery worked as the head of the shipping department for Jerry Silverman Clothing in New York City.
His wife, whom he married on May 30, 1954, died on Jan. 5, 2006.
He leaves a sister, Zetha Quarles of New York City; two brothers-in-law, Jon Douglass of Brooklyn and Charles Douglass of East Hartford, Conn., and nieces and nephews.
Two sisters are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Avery will be celebrated, Friday Aug. 10, at 11 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held Friday morning from 10 to 10:45 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial contributions are suggested for the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
