Kenneth R. LaPlante, 93

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Kenneth Raymond "Red" LaPlante, 93, of Williamstown died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at North Adams Regional Hospital.

Born in Skowhegan, Maine, on Oct. 19, 1818, a son of Albert and Sadie Mae Bennett LaPlante, he moved to Clarksburg at an early age and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams in 1936.

An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he served as a tail-gunner on B-24 Liberators from 1944 to 1946. He remained in the Reserves until 1949.

Mr. LaPlante was employed by the former GE Ordnance Department in Pittsfield until his retirement in 1979.

He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mercy Church in North Adams and was a member of the Friendship Club and the GE Foreman's and Quarter Century clubs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.

He and his wife, the former Elsie Irene Olson, were married on April 20, 1940.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Hazel Mae Nicol and her husband, James, of Avon, Conn.; two grandchildren, Kim Goff of Kenilworth, Ill., and Scott Nicol of Hunterville, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

His siblings Eleanor, William and Albert LaPlante predeceased him.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A private funeral for Mr. LaPlante will be held at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.
