Henry G. Goetsch, 88

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Henry G. "Hank" Goetsch, 88, of 29 Thistle Path died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at Williamstown Commons.

Born in Milwaukee on Aug. 5, 1924, a son of Henry and Edith Jahn Goetsch, he graduated from Custer High School there and earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin.

A decorated veteran of World War II, he served with the Army Medical Corps.

Mr. Goetsch was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co., first in Wisconsin and later at the company's headquarters in North Adams, where he was corporate manager of security for many years. He was last employed part time as an instructor in the business department at what was then North Adams State College.

He was a longtime member of First Congregational Church of North Adams and was a loyal member of the Williamstown Lions Club, for which he held every office including president. He was presented in 2000 with the highest honor given by Lions Club International, the Melvin Jones Fellowship, for his humanity service.

He leaves his wife, the former Ruth Bachhelm, whom he married Dec. 28, 1946, in Springfield, Ill.; a daughter, Caryl Johnson of Needham; two sons, H. Edward Goetsch of Tolland, Conn., and David Goetsch of Stafford, Conn.; a brother, John Goetsch of New Jersey, and four grandchildren.

His brother James Goetsch died in 2008.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Goetsch will take place Thursday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. at First Congregational Church of North Adams. Burial will be private in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
