WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Slava Elizabeth Mowll, 97, of Williamstown, formerly of Baltimore, Md., died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.
Born in Baltimore on Oct. 24, 1914, daughter of Jerry and Elizabeth Zahradka Matejka, she attended Baltimore schools and graduated from Goucher College. She moved to Williamstown in 2005 to be with her family.
Mrs. Mowll was a teacher at Towson (Md.) High School and later, after earning her pilot's license, worked at Essex (Md.) Skypark.
She was an accomplished gardener, known for her daffodils, a golfer, and author of "The Matejkas: My Czech Parents Make an American Life in Baltimore."
She leaves her daughter, Nancy Mowll Mathews of Williamstown; her son, Kenneth Mowll of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren, Twyla Mowll and Alas Douglas, and a niece, Lynn Matejka Gittings.
Her daughter Marjorie Mowll; her brother, Jerry Matejka, and her former husband, Jack Mowll, predeceased her.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Memorial receptions for Mrs. Mowll will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21, from 2 to 4 at her daughter's home in Williamstown and on Thursday, Dec. 27, at 4 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Baltimore.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Goucher College or Hope Lutheran Church, 1901 Middleborough Road, Essex, MD 21221. Flynn & Dagnoili-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
