Mary E. McManus, 92

October 13, 2012

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mary Elizabeth McManus, 92, of 196 Southworth St. died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Williamstown Commons.

Born in Jackson, Miss., on May 1, 1920, a daughter of Otho Raymond and Anna Lee "Dolly" Stratton Dunavant, she attended schools in Memphis, Tenn., and graduated from Memphis High School.

An Army veteran of World War II, she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps and served until her honorable discharge on Dec. 16, 1945.

Mrs. McManus was employed in retailing until the outbreak of WWII, afterward she became a homemaker for her family.

She and her husband, George Louis McManus, moved to Cleveland after the war. In 1957, they moved to Elmhurst, Ill., and to Williamstown in 1961.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.

Her husband, whom she married Dec. 30, 1939, in Cleveland, died on May 13, 2003.

She leaves her daughter, Suzanne Rilla and her husband, Paul, in Amherst; a son, Raymond McManus and his wife, Patricia Guida, of Weymouth; four grandchildren, Catherine Rilla, Megan Hiltabidle, Elizabeth McManus and Christina McManus and five great-grandchildren, Maxwell Hiltabidle, Audrey Hiltabidle, Brianna Gately, Ava McManus and Skyla McManus.

Her brothers Raymond Dunavant and William Dunavant predeceased her.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Graveside services with military honors for Mrs. McManus will take place Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. at Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for Hospice in the Berkshires, Inc. or to the activities fund for Unit 2 at Williamstown Commons through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
