Ruth M. F. Morrissey, 90
October 24, 2012
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Ruth Mary Frances Morrissey, 90, formerly of 137 Higgins Drive, died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Williamstown Commons, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in North Adams on Jan. 23, 1922, a daughter of I. Joseph and Delia Perreault O'Brien Cote, she graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams with the class of 1939.
Mrs. Morrissey was employed for many years at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams.
She was an avid skier, skater, swimmer and seamstress and was young at heart. Deeply religious, she was a loyal communicant of the Parish of Sts. Patrick and Raphael Parish. She also was a member of the North Adams Emblem Club and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
She had a wonderful sense of humor, said her family, which was enjoyed by all who knew her. She also had an excellent skill in crossword puzzles, Jumble and Scrabble. She was best known for her family gatherings that included her award-winning apple pie, and enjoyed sharing her tea pot collection with all who entered her cozy home. She was a wonderful mother to all her children, a fantastic aunt to all her nieces and nephews who loved and adored her and the grandmother a child could dream about and great-grandmother who could change a child's frown into a smile.
Her loving daughter and her son-in-law, Ernie, were blessed to be her constant companions and caregivers through her latter years, with the help of Jane Oles who treated Mrs. Morrissey like her own mother, and Maureen Pedercini, a niece who loved her like a mother.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Owen Morrissey and his wife, Sandra, of North Adams, and Owen Joseph Morrissey and his wife, Christina, of New York City; two daughters, Judith Morrissey Bombardier and her husband, Ernest, of Williamstown and Mary Ellen Morrissey of Swampscott; five grandchildren, Lori Morrissey, Michael P. Morrissey, Eamon Stimson, Reed Morrissey and Christian Morrissey, and three great-grandchildren, Emily Howe, Colleen Howe and Nevyn Olivia Morrissey.
She was predeceased by a sister and two brothers: Dorothy Skorupski and John and William O'Brien.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Morrissey will take place Friday, Oct. 26, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams.
Calling hours will be Friday morning from 9:30 until 11 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Donations are suggested for the Williamstown Food Pantry through the funeral home.
Mrs. Morrissey's family would like to thank the staff at Williamstown Commons for the love and care that they provided to their mother.
Judy: I remember your Mom so well. Walking, chatting, laughing, as she walked and chatted. You should be proud. You were a good daughter.
My sympathies to you and your family. | from: Linda Perry (Collyer) | on: 10-27-2012 |
