WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Joseph Anthony Moresi Jr., 86, of 225 Longview Terrace died peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, Conn., with his wife and other family members at his side. He had been chairman of the Board of Registrars for the city of North Adams.

Born in North Adams on March 31, 1926, son of Joseph A. Moresi Sr. and Lena Fachini Moresi, he attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1943. He also was a cum laude graduate of St. Michael's College with the class of 1950. He also studied at the University of Maine at Orono.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the Army Air Forces in the Pacific. He served from June 16, 1944, until his honorable discharge with the rank of sergeant on May 15, 1946.

Mr. Moresi joined the former Sprague Electric Co. in 1950. During his 27-year tenure at its North Adams plant, he was the department head for electrolytics, traveling extensively around the world, including to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Scotland, Korea and Milan. In 1977, he transferred to its Oak Ridge, Tenn., plant, where he oversaw plant operations as general manager. While there, he was awarded two U.S. Patents and 12 citations in capacitor assembly and sealed flat electrolytic capacitor and method. He was last employed as general manager of the Hillsville, Va., plant until 1988, when he retired and returned to Williamstown.

He was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church. He was a member of the North Adams Sons of Italy, serving on its realty trust. He was a life member of the North Adams Elks; a member of American Legion Post 125 and the Sprague Management Club. He served as the He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Taconic Golf Club, as well as sports, following many of the local teams. He also enjoyed travel and cooking. He was a devoted and loving husband and a generous, kind, and loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

He and his wife, the former Frances S. Faustini, were married on June 30, 1951.

Besides his wife of 51 years, he leaves four children, Russell J. Moresi and his wife, Robin, of Torrington, Conn., Nancy Scerbo and her husband, Robert, of Williamstown, Laurie DesRosier and her husband, Thomas, of Boston, and Dr. Peter Moresi and his wife, Kristy, of Roswell, Ga.; a brother, Robert Moresi and his wife, Janice, of North Adams; a sister, Rose Righi and her husband, Virgil, of North Adams; eight grandchildren, Kristin Moresi and her husband, Bryan, Peter Scerbo and his wife, Justine, David DesRosier, Heather Moresi, Jaclyn Kaster and her husband, Chris, Angela Scerbo, Joseph A. Moresi and Maddalena Moresi; a great-grandson, Cameron Honiker, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Moresi will be Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 8:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Monday, Jan. 21, from 3 to 6 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church or the St. Vincent de Paul Conference in care of the funeral home.
