WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Barbara Elsie Urban, 94, of Proprietor's Field, 118 Church St., died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at her home.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 3, 1918, daughter of Thomas and Blanche Hicks Crofts, she graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1936.
Mrs. Urban and her late husband, Harry C. Urban, were the first managers of the Proprietor's Field apartment complex, from 1979 to 1988. Before that, she worked at the North Adams Transcript as a bookkeeper for about 10 years.
She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
Her husband, whom she married on Aug. 31, 1940, died on Nov. 18, 1996.
She leaves two daughters, Barbara Hardiman and her husband, Charles, of Buford, Ga., and Jean Thorndike of Williamstown; a son, Harry F. Urban and his wife, Anne, of North Adams; one sister, Blanche Heggie of Williamstown; four grandchildren, Patricia Carter of Williamstown, Scott Hardiman of Buford and Rachel Tassone and Liz Urban, both of North Adams; three great-grandchildren, Alison Tassone, Domenick Tassone and Croft Carter, and nieces and nephews.
Her sisters and brothers Helen Judd, Dorothy Henderson, Thomas Crofts and John Crofts are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A graveside service for Mrs. Urban will be held Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 11 at Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
