NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The auditorium at Drury High School was filled to capacity Wednesday evening, June 10, with family, friends and faculty anxiously waiting to honor those students who strived to do their very best during the 2009-2010 school year.
The event, known as Student Recognition Night, was organized by English teacher and SPIRIT adviser Karen Bedard. The group, Students Promoting Involvement, Respect, Individualism and Tolerance, was established 13 years ago with Student Recognition Night being an annual event since its inception. The goal is to create a respectful and welcoming environment for all students. Bedard has been at the helm for the past two years.
"As adults, we do not often enough tell young people how proud we are of them or acknowledge the excellent work they do," she wrote in a letter sent home to parents. "At Student Recognition Night, the Drury faculty and administration will do just that. Each award has been earned by outstanding effort and achievement."
