WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — With nomination papers due on Tuesday, seven of 10 offices on the spring's town election ballot have at least one candidate who has returned those papers.

So far, several potential contested races are shaping up.

Town Clerk Nicole Beverly on Thursday reported that three people have taken out papers for two three-year terms on the Select Board and two have taken out papers for one five-year seat on the Planning Board.

Bilal Ansari and incumbent Jane Patton each have returned completed papers for the Select Board race. Randal Fippinger, who currently serves on the town's Diversity, Inclusion and Racial Equity Committee, also has taken out papers.

If all three end up on the ballot, the top two vote-getters would earn a seat on the five-person board.

For the one open seat on the Planning Board, incumbent Chris Winters and would-be challenger Kenneth Kuttner have taken out papers; as of mid-day Thursday, neither had returned completed the forms.

There are four seats on the Milne Library Board of Trustees on the May ballot. Tim Cherubini, Micah Manary and Briget Spann have returned papers. Hale Polebaum-Freeman and Robin Lenz also have pulled papers.

Two posts have one candidate who has returned papers to date. Elisabeth Goodman has returned the forms to run for moderator; incumbent David Westall has returned his papers for a spot on the Northern Berkshire Vocational Regional School District Committee.

Would-be candidates need to have 31 certified signatures of town residents to be included on the ballot, though the clerk traditionally recommends they obtain more than 31 signatures in case some cannot be verified.

Beverly asked that anyone who wants to take out papers on Friday or Monday contact her at 458-3500, Ext. 101, or nbeverly@williamstownma.gov.

Completed papers with signatures must be returned by Tuesday, March 22.

The town election is Tuesday, May 10.
