Clark Art Screens 'Our Hospitality'04:00PM / Friday, August 04, 2023 | |
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Wednesday, Aug. 9, the Clark Art Institute screens "Our Hospitality."
The film is shown as part of the Clark's five-part Summer Outdoor Movie Series. The film screens outdoors near the Clark's Reflecting Pool, beginning at dusk (8:05 pm).
According to a press release:
"Our Hospitality" (1923; 1 hour, 14 minutes) broadened the boundaries of slapstick and justified the European avant-garde's fascination with American comedy. Just a few years after women had won the right to vote in the United States, Buster Keaton retools the classic story of the Hatfields and the McCoys in order to figuratively (and literally, several times) explode the conventional idea of the home. Keaton upends gender expectations and skewers the regressive ideals of D.W. Griffith, burlesquing Way Down East with one of the great set pieces of silent cinema.
Free. Bring a picnic and seating.
