WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — One person was transported from the scene by ambulance Monday after a single-car accident on the Taconic Trail near the New York State line, police said.

Timothy Redden of Bennington, Vt., was traveling west on Route 2 when he reported having a coughing fit, according to a police report by Officer Tania Hernandez.

"Then he heard himself hit something and, next he knew, he was on his side," Hernandez reported.

The accident occurred at 11:35 Monday morning.

According to the accident report, Redden's 2016 Toyota pickup went into the pulloff area on the westbound lane, hit a guard rail and then crossed the highway, ending up flipped on its side in a ditch on the eastbound side.

Redden was cited for failure to stay in marked lanes, according to the report.

First responders at the scene reported that Redden exited the vehicle under his own power.

He was transported from the scene by Northern Berkshire EMS, according to the police report.

The Williamstown Fire Department also reported to the accident.
