Mount Everett alumna Gwen Carpenter is seen in this photo from Framingham State University.

Framingham State senior point guard Gwendolyn Carpenter last month broke the all time assist record at the school.

Her 466th career assist came in a win over Curry College on Dec. 9, breaking a 5-year-old school record.

Carpenter was averaging more than seven assists per game going into Wednesday's home game against Westfield State. She also led the Rams (11-1) in minutes played, averaging 36.8 minutes per contest and had scored 9.4 points per game.

Carpenter is no stranger to breaking records. As a senior at Mount Everett, she set Berkshire County's all-time scoring mark for high school basketball.

Framingham State visits MCLA on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Riley Robinson (Hoosac Valley) has 19 assists this winter with the Springfield College women's basketball team. Appearing in all 12 games for the Pride and averaging just 16 minutes per game, she also has averaged 2.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Springfield (10-2) hosts Smith on Saturday.

The MCLA women's basketball team features two local graduates this fall. First-year guard Eva Eberwein (Wahconah) has nine starts and has averaged 25 minutes per game, scoring 3.5 points per game for the Trailblazers (3-9). Pittsfield High's Laney Martin has appeared in 11 games and averages 11 minutes per night for MCLA, which hosted Fitchburg State on Wednesday.

The MCLA men also hosted the Falcons on Wednesday. Taconic graduate Quentin Gittens is posting big numbers in his senior season, starting all 11 games and leading the Trailblazers in points (13.7 ppg) and minutes (30.7 mpg). Gittens also has 1.2 assists per game and a team-best 1.5 steals per game. MCLA was 5-6 going into Wednesday night's game.

The Division I University of Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers will be looking to stop a five-game slide when they host America East foe Bryant on Saturday. Former Monument Mountain standout Dion Brown leads the Retrievers (5-10) in points (16.4 ppg) and rebounds (5.7 rpg). He has started all 15 games for UMBC and also leads the team in minutes played (29 mpg).

Mohamed Sanogo and the Florida International University men also are 5-10 going into their Saturday game at Conference USA rival Jacksonville State. Sanogo has appeared in 14 games this winter, averaging 5.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per night. He also has six blocks this season.

Hoosac Valley graduate Carson Meczywor has started five times and played in all 12 games for the UMass Boston men this season. Meczywor is averaging 5.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game for the Beacons (2-10), who were scheduled to open the 2024 portion of their schedule on Wednesday night at home against Southern Maine.

The Emmanuel College men's basketball team ends a week-long break when it travels to Tufts on Sunday. First-year guard Connor Hanavan (Monument Mountain/Berkshire School) has appeared in two games so far for the Saints (5-7).

Mount Greylock graduate and Rensselaer Polytechnic sophomore Jack Catelotti competed in the 60-meter dash at last month's Utica Holiday Classic. He clocked a time of 7.35 seconds in the preliminaries, missing the cut for the finals by just more than a tenth of a second. RPI continues its season at Brandeis on Jan. 13.

One more from the fall ...

Pittsfield High School alumna Marie Butler wrapped up her senior season on the Mary Washington women's volleyball team, helping the Eagles reach the NCAA Division III Sweet 16.

Mary Washington was ranked 22nd in the country this fall. Butler had 45 kills in 22 matches. She also had a hand in 14 blocks.
