ARLINGTON, Vt. — Gabby has the zoomies but she'll slow down for a family to snuggle with.
iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.
Gabby is a 2- to 3-year-old hound/pitbull mix and has been at Second Chance Animal Shelter since January 2024.
She was brought in as a stray to the shelter after a bit of time trying to catch her.
"She was a stray, local stray and animal control, it took them about two weeks to catch her. She is a bit of a runner. She loves to run. That's her favorite thing. But she was getting pretty hungry, so they were able to lure her in," shelter manager Troy Quinn said.
Gabby can be shy at first, but once she gets to know you, she becomes a ball of energy and needs someone who can be very active with her.
"An active home ... let her definitely acclimate, just because she can be a little timid at first, she's kind of go, go, go, kind of girl, and gets a little overwhelmed at first, but she settles right in," he said.
One of her main activities is running around outside. Once you let her off-leash in the back yard, she will run very fast and even play some catch.
"Definitely running, if it was a busy family that loved to run or just be able to play with her. That is her favorite thing to do, because she literally will refuse to come inside because she just wants to zoom around and play," Quinn said.
Gabby can go to a home with older children but must be the only pet.
"Her only downfall is she just can't live with other pets. She definitely has a prey drive with cats, which you can see when she's running, she zooms right around, but she loves her people," he said. "She can be a little timid at first, but she's a big snuggler that's for sure."
Gabby is still learning on to walk on her leash but is super happy with everyone.
"Seems healthy and definitely a very happy girl. She loves all our staff and volunteers. She does good on her walks. She's still learning to not pull so much on the leash, but it can be a little boring at the shelter," Quinn said.
Once you meet Gabby you may find her very snuggly. She is very good in her kennel and loves to have a safe space to be.
"She's just a big love bug. She loves giving hugs and just being with her people," Quinn said. "She does really good with the house-breaking from what we've seen. She does good in her kennel. She likes her safe space."
