BENNINGTON, Vt. — The 35th annual Mayfest Arts and Crafts Festival returns to Bennington after a COVID-19 driven two-year hiatus. Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic and filled with over 95 vendors offering juried crafts and specialty food on May 28 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public with plenty of free parking downtown. There will be many different types of live performances throughout the day on four separate stages including the Thomson Family Stage in Merchants Park as well as children's activities, live demos, and much more. Alison Case moves to adjourn Williamstown's annual town meeting at its outset on Tuesday evening. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Attendees at Tuesday's annual town meeting voted overwhelmingly to adjourn the meeting at its outset and continue on Tuesday, June 14, at 7 p.m. at Mount Greylock Regional School. As expected, a motion to adjourn was made immediately after Town Moderator Adam Filson called the meeting to order in the Williamstown Elementary School gymnasium. The motion, which needed a simple majority for passage, was approved by a vote of 149-49. A Superior Court judge in Pittsfield Tuesday denied a request for an injunction that would have postponed Tuesday’s meeting but required that all participants wear masks. The town previously had announced it would provide masks to any attendees needing one. Earlier versions of this story incorrectly identified Huff Templeton as a party to the motion seeking an injunction.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams College men's tennis team Sunday defeated Bowdoin, 5-1, to advance to the quarter-finals of the NCAA Division III tournament. Wins at number one and number two doubles gave the Williams (15-3) a 2-1 lead over Bowdoin (16-6) heading into singles play. Williams' third point came at No. 2 singles where Matt Kandel downed Reid Staples 6-2, 6-3. With the advent of the Bird e-scooters in Pittsfield, available to anyone with a license, a few cents, and a cell phone, I hope that Berkshire Medical Center's emergency room is ready for the traumatic brain injuries coming down the road. The rentals don't include helmets and I've seen plenty of people having a blast — laughing and zipping along next to traffic — some riding double and no one wearing a helmet. They feel like a toy but they aren't toys: E-scooters are one of the most dangerous vehicles on the road with double the head injuries of cyclists — the injury rate is comparable to motorcycle riding. Williamstown residents attending town meeting on Tuesday, May 17, would be well-advised to watch the most recent "Talks on the Hill" at Williamstown Rural Lands, now playing on WilliNet. It is hard not to conclude that town voters should reject the Planning Board's proposed articles with respect to our Rural Residence districts. In a succinct 30-minute presentation on "Low-Density Development," Regina Fink and Annika Harrington provide viewers with a deep understanding of the complexities of rural development and housing, delivered with a clarity that has been lacking from the Planning Board itself.

 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williams College men's tennis team Saturday defeated the Nichols College Bison, 5-0, to advance to Sunday's third round of the NCAA Division III championship. Williams will play either Washington & Lee or Bowdoin, who met later on Saturday. Williams improved to 14-3 on the year while Nichols finishes their season at 17-6.  HOUSTON – On the final day of the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship at Bay Oaks Country Club Williams College carded a team score of 13-over-par 301, and finished sixth. Under head coach Tomas Adalsteinsson Williams has finished sixth or higher in all six NCAA Tournaments they have competed in during his tenure.
