Clark Art Airs Production of 'Madama Butterfly'

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Metropolitan Opera's broadcast of "Madama Butterfly" airs at the Clark Art Institute on Saturday, May 11 at 12:55 pm in the last installment of this opera season's The Met: Live in HD.    This award-winning series of live, high-definition cinema simulcasts features the full live performance along with backstage interviews and commentary. Hancock town meeting members Monday vote on a routine item early in the meeting. HANCOCK, Mass. — By the narrowest of margins Monday, the annual town meeting voted to strike from the town report messaging that some residents described as, "inflammatory," "divisive" and unwelcoming to new residents.   On a vote of 50-48, the meeting voted to remove the inside cover of the report as it appeared on the town website and in printed versions distributed prior to the meeting and at the elementary school on Monday night.   The text, which appeared to be a reprinted version of an Internet meme, read, "You came here from there because you didn't

New Ashford Fire Department Puts New Truck into Service

New Ashford Fire Department Chaplain J.D. Hebert gives an invocation on Saturday morning. NEW ASHFORD, Mass. — With a blessing from its chaplain and a ceremonial dousing from a fire hose, the New Ashford Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday christened its first new apparatus in two decades.   The company purchased a 2003 HME Central States pumper from the town of Pelham earlier this year.   On Saturday, the department held a brief ceremony during which Chaplain J.D. Hancock Town Meeting Features Major Question on School Choice

HANCOCK, Mass. — Town meeting voters will be asked Monday to approve a request to change state law in a way that will preserve education at Hancock Elementary School.   They also may be asked to take a stand on an addition to the town report that stirred some controversy in the town of 757.   Article 18 on the annual town meeting warrant is a home-rule petition to ask the Legislature to exempt the single-school district from a provision in state law that enables students enrolled under Massachusetts' School Choice program to continue their education at the same school as their classmates after sixth grade.   Massachusetts General Law Chapter 76, Section 12B,
