 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute will continue its Pastoral on Paper film series with a screening of "The Quiet Man" (1952) on Thursday, May 15, at 6 p.m. The event will be held in the Manton Research Center. Directed by John Ford and set in the 1920s, "The Quiet Man" stars John Wayne as Sean Thornton, an American boxer who returns to his birthplace of Innisfree to claim his family farm. The film explores themes of tradition, ceremony, and rural life. The film has a run time of 2 hours and 9 minutes. The screening is free.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Berkshire Nursing Families (BNF) has announced a benefit concert featuring the band Misty Blues. The event is scheduled for Friday, May 16, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the '62 Center at Williams College. Misty Blues is expected to perform their Queens of the Blues set. The concert will support BNF's mission to provide free feeding and parenting support to families in the Berkshire County region. Established in 1998, BNF offers services such as in-home lactation consultations, a 24/7 support line, peer groups, playgroups, and childbirth and breastfeeding classes. POWNAL, Vt. — State Police are investigating an apparent hit-and-run on Thursday morning that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries. The victim, a woman, was found near the intersection of U.S. Route 7 and Vermont Route 346 shortly before 7 a.m. She was taken to Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center. Her current condition is unknown other than she is being treated for serious injuries. Her identity is not being disclosed pending notification of relatives and further investigation. As a former Select Board member (2015–2021), I am excited to see a new candidate, Shana Dixon, running for Select Board. After two terms on the board, I stepped aside to make room for new voices: I recognized the importance of not overstaying my time. As a board "retiree," you can mentor new Select Board members without the risk of violating open meeting law; you can speak at public meetings, where your perspective is informed by your experience and service to the town; you can volunteer as a community member on committees such as the Affordable Housing Trust, DIRE, and CPC; and, you can continue to advocate at Town Hall for the issues you care about. Pownal Woman Killed in Route 7 Accident| 10:38PM / Tuesday, May 06, 2025 | |
POWNAL, Vt. — A Pownal woman was was killed Tuesday morning following a collision with a school bus on Route 7. Dana Zazinski, 60, was northbound in a 2018 Toyota Rav 4 north when it collided in the southbound lane with a 2025 Ford E-350 school bus operated by Kimberly Galok, 61, of Eagle Bridge, N.Y. Zazinski was pronounced dead at the scene. Galok was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center by the Pownal Rescue Squad to be treated for minor injuries. Police said the school bus did not have any students onboard at the time of the crash. New ideas for town governance do not always come from new people. Sometimes they come from a person who has served on a board for many years. And if that person listens to understand, has an open mind, learns from past experience, uses logic and reason to form her view, and has the courage to put forth that view no matter how unpopular, that "new idea" has a breadth and depth to it that the idea of a novice lacks. Frequently, Jane [Patton] is the "1" in a "4-1" vote. She has all the foregoing qualities.
Sadly, our town seems very divided. We need strong and thoughtful leadership to show us the way to better times. Jane can and will provide the
