 Leigh Davis will run on the Democratic party line in November to fill the 3rd Berkshire House seat being vacated by William "Smitty" Pignatelli. At just after 10:30 on Tuesday evening, with 97 percent of the votes counted, the Associated Press called the Democratic primary for Davis, a member of the Great Barrington Select Board. She had 56 percent of the votes, well ahead of her nearest challenger, Patrick White, who had 37 percent. Jamie Minacci was running a distant third with 6 percent of the votes that were in. Davis in November will face Lenox Select Board member Marybeth Mitts, who is running as an independent to serve South County in the House of 0 Comments

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Since it premiered off-Broadway in 1987, Robert Harling's "Steel Magnolias" has proven to be as resilient as the characters it portrays and the autoimmune disease survivors who identify with the story it tells. After star-studded 1989 motion picture, a Broadway production in 2005, a TV film remake in 2012 and countless regional productions over the last few decades, the tale of fellowship and heartache in the American South will be told in North County on Friday, Sept. 13, by a group of Mount Greylock Regional School students.  ADAMS, Mass. -- An eight-mile, mostly uphill climb to the the highest point in the commonwealth is enough of a challenge for any runner. For Mount Greylock Regional School senior Rafael Mellow-Bartels, Sunday brought another problem. "I think, for me, the main challenge was just running without anybody around me," Mellow-Bartels said after completing the 48th annual Mount Greylock Road Race. "It was kind of foggy for the last two miles, so I couldn't see anybody. I had my watch, so I knew how far I was, and I knew my pace. But I didn't know where anybody else was. The American boat had won its heat two days earlier and pulled the third fastest time overall, so the United States boat was conceivably in contention for podium spots. As the traffic lights on the start dock went from red to green, the race was off, and every crew came flying off the line with something to prove.
