Swann Finishes Cross Country Campaign on High Note at WilliamsiBerkshires.com Sports, 06:12PM / Monday, December 01, 2025 | |
Mount Greylock Regional School graduate Kate Swann capped her college cross country career last month by leading Williams College a second-place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championships in South Carolina. Swann, a captain on the Williams squad this fall, posted a time of 21 minutes, 41 seconds on the 6-kilometer course to earn all-America honors as an individual. Williams' team finished with 106 points to finish behind DIII Champion New York University with 79 points. "It was a really, really wonderful day," Swann told Williams' sports information office. In celebration of Hugh Hayden's sculpture, the End, December's First Sunday Free theme is "Beasts and Bones." Enjoy free museum admission from 10 am–5 pm and take part in free special activities from 1–4 pm. Hayden's massive artwork evokes the ribcage of a long-gone giant. PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Lauren Osborne did not finish in the top 10 of Thursday morning's 10th annual MountainOne Thankful 5K. Not even the top 100. But with their full-fledged turkey costumes, it was a shoo-in that she and her husband Carl would be in the running for best dressed. At 9 a.m., the Osborne family toed the line for the 3.1-mile circuit around the Berkshire Community College campus, out West Street and back to the parking lot. PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Residents are asked to be aware of traffic delays on outer West Street along the Berkshire Community College campus down to Meadow Ridge on Thanksgiving morning between 9 and 10 a.m. for the 10th annual MountainOne Thankful 5K. The annual event is a fundraiser for the local Berkshire County food pantries. As of Tuesday afternoon, there are close to 700 runners registered for the race. The event will have walkers and runners and more than 100 students participating for free. Attendees are asked to remain on the left side of the road throughout the event to ensure traffic can flow through the event. According to the policy posted on the town's website, the use of "second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides," commonly known as SGARs on town property will be prohibited as of Dec. 1. An emergency waiver allowing use of SGARS can be granted by the town manager in the event of, "a significant rodent infestation of public health consequence that has already exhausted all workable less-toxic integrated pest and rodent management practices." Thanksgiving will be observed on Thursday, Nov. 27. The day is a national holiday inspired by the first Thanksgiving dinner shared between the Pilgrims and Wampanoags in 1621 at Plymouth. The living history museum Plimoth Patuxet continues the tradition each year with a recreation of the event in which visitors can participate.
