First-year Moderator Elisabeth Goodman and first-year Town Manager Robert Menicocci check out the results of a vote. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — There were some unresolved issues from Tuesday's annual town meeting. Members were asked whether the peak of nearby Mount Greylock is the highest 0 Comments Read More >> |
Letter: Mobile, Trailer, Modular, Stick Built — What Is It?Letter to the Editor, 04:00PM / Thursday, May 18, 2023
To the Editor: It was abundantly clear before, during, and after the Williamstown town meeting on Tuesday night, that there is an erroneous understanding of the distinction between mobile, manufactured, and modular homes resulting in most people confusing manufactured with modular. The name "mobile homes" was a simple name change to make this type of home seem better and preferable to what they were originally called, "trailers." Trailers, like mobile homes, were living units built on a chassis with wheels making them easily movable over the highway. As time progressed and construction methods and standards improved, in June of 1976, the name for trailers and mobile

And part of the story was an acknowledgement of where those efforts fell short. One of many areas where the district has emphasized its push for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging has been in how it communicates with the families of students, Business Administrator Joe Bergeron told the committee. "Despite the fact that I, in sending emails regularly to families across the district, especially during COVID, tried to be pretty consistent about making sure there were 0 Comments Read More >> |

Letter: Night of the Living Voting ClickersLetter to the Editor, 05:00PM / Sunday, May 14, 2023
To the Editor: I did a little research regarding the proposed Williamstown electronic voting devices and am offering more information than was provided by Selectman Daley. First: The cost of the devices is $26,000 for 1,000. Williamstown, actually has more poverty than Lanesboro, and I’m sure 26 needy families could make good use of $1,000. The devices appear to be of Asian origin and are identified as SunVote M30 Response Keypads. Other towns in New England have begun using these or similar devices. Williamstown appears to be gung-ho to jump on the bandwagon. They are designed to work via Bluetooth radio waves. The keypads use two lithium CR2032 batteries each. They employ two-way
