Ski for Scholarship: Bartels Community Ski Race 2026Community submission, 11:56AM / Monday, January 26, 2026 | |
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The 19th Mathias Jessup Bartels benefit cross-country ski race and tour will be held on Sunday, Feb. 1, at 11:30 a.m. at Mount Greylock Regional School. The event will feature a 3-kilometer kids’/beginner’s race, a lollipop race for young children, and a 6K classic race. Races are suitable for all ages and abilities. Prizes will be awarded to overall and age category winners. A $15 donation is requested at day of race registration. Ramsey is a pitbull mix who is more than 6 years old. Lead canine care technician Alaura Lasher introduced us to him. "Even though he's 6 1/2, he's still a pretty energetic boy. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute presents "In Focus: Mythology and Nudity in European Art," a thematic tour of the permanent collection that examines mythological scenes in paintings and sculptures from the 16th to the 20th century. The talk takes place on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. It will cover how mythology became one of the four approved subjects for artists studying at the French Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, and how mythological scenes provided artists with an opportunity to show off their skills at portraying human bodies in the nude. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Jack Miller Contractors has received the town's approval to renovate and expand the abandoned gas station and convenience store property at the corner of Sand Springs Road and Simonds Road (Route 7) to serve as its new headquarters. Last Tuesday, the Planning Board voted, 5-0, to approve a development plan for 824 Simonds Road that will incorporate the existing 1,300-square-foot building and add an approximately 2,100-square-foot addition. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee will meet on Tuesday to begin considering grant applications for the fiscal year 2027 funding cycle. As has been the case in recent years, the total of the requests before the committee far exceed the amount of Community Preservation Act funds the town anticipates for the fiscal year that begins on July 1. Nine applications totaling $1,003,434 are on the table for the committee's perusal. The committee previously has discussed a limit of $624,000 in available funds for this funding cycle, about 62 percent of the total sought. The board voted 4-0 to move the annual meeting back to the Church Street school after it was held at Mount Greylock Regional School the last four years. Twice, in 2020 and 2021, the meeting was held outdoors at Williams College's Weston Field during the height of the pandemic.
