Clark Art Institute Screens 'The Phantom of the Paradise'

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Thursday, Jan. 23, the Clark Art Institute screens the latest installment in its Hollywood Auteurs film series, "The Phantom of the Paradise" (1974), at 6 pm.    Presented in partnership with Images Cinema, this series captures the explosion of creativity, critical acclaim, and box office success that Hollywood directors found after the fall of the studio system. Williamstown CPA Requests Come in Well Above Available Funds

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee faces nearly $300,000 in funding requests for fiscal year 2026.   Problem is, the town only anticipates having about $200,000 worth of funds available.   Seven non-profits have submitted eight applications totaling $293,797 for FY26. A spreadsheet detailing both FY26 revenue and known expenses already earmarked from Community Preservation Act revenues shows the town will have $202,535 in "unrestricted balance available" for the year that begins on July 1.   Ultimately, the annual town meeting in May will decide whether to allocate any of that $202,535.   Starting on Wednesday, the CPC will begin

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is being celebrated Monday, Jan. 20. It is a federal holiday to commemorate the birthday of the civil rights activist born Jan. 15, 1929. It is observed on the third Monday in January.

King, a Baptist minister, led the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s by espousing nonviolent protest. Williams College Student Struck by Car on Main Street

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A pedestrian hit by a car on Main Street on Wednesday evening was treated and released from Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, police said Thursday.   The student, who lives in a residence hall on the Williams College campus, was hit while crossing Main Street (Route 2) near the intersection with Spring Street at 5:46 p.m., according to a police report.   Steven Shuttleworth of Peru, the driver of a black Chevy Malibu, was cited for a crosswalk violation, Police Chief Mike Ziemba said.   According to the report filed by Officer David Jennings, Shuttleworth was traveling east on Main Street and did not see the student in the

Orchards Renovation Likely to Add Tax Revenue in Williamstown

Williamstown Expects Spike in Property Taxes in FY26

Williamstown Board of Health Pushes for Action on Motel Issue

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Board of Health on Monday morning authorized the health inspector to take a more forceful tone in seeking resolution to an ongoing issue at the 1896 House Inn on Cold Spring Road.   Since the summer, the board has been trying to get the proprietor of the Cold Spring Road (Route 7) motel to address electrical issues that pose a potential safety hazard to guests.   On Monday morning, Health Inspector Ruth Russell told the body that the owner of the inn has not been forthcoming with the town about a plan to fully address the issues.   "As we know, they updated the outlets, as we asked," Russell said. Lanesborough, Williamstown Schools Make FY26 Budget Requests
