Savoy Residents Get First Say Wednesday on McCann Tech Bond

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Residents of Savoy Wednesday will have the first say — and possibly final say — on whether the McCann Technical School roof and window replacement project can go forward.   Savoy has a special town meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. at the fire house to decide whether to approve the Northern Berkshire Vocational Regional School District's request for authorization to borrow $16.8 million for the project.   If Savoy says no?   "The project is dead," McCann Tech Superintendent James Brosnan told the Williamstown Select Board on Monday night.   Brosnan was before the Williamstown board because it, like Savoy and seven other

Williams Students Reportedly Harassed on Main Street

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Williamstown Police and Williams College security are investigating two reports of students being harassed on Main Street over the weekend.   In a letter to the campus community on Tuesday morning, Campus Safety Services Director Jeff Palmer detailed separate incidents where students were harassed on Route 2.   In one case, "a white 4-door pickup truck towing a motorcycle trailer that shouted and made gestures of a derogatory and explicit nature and shouted racial slurs at students who were waiting at the bus stop," Palmer wrote.   Another time students reported to CSS that, "a black truck … accelerated through the crosswalk

Tribal Members to Host Powwow on Their Homeland

NEW LEBANON, N.Y. — For the first time in more than 200 years, tribal people will return to their homeland for an inaugural powwow.    The traditional Homelands PowWow will bring members of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohicans from all over the state, from Wisconsin all the way to California, to Darrow School for the weekend of Oct. 4 and 5.    The event runs from 10 to 5 both days and tickets are $10 to $20; weekend passes are $15 to $30. Great Spots to Catch a Fish in Berkshire County

Windsor Lake in North Adams is regularly stocked with trout. 

Summer may be winding down, but there is still plenty of time and great weather to catch some fish.

Most major lakes, ponds, and rivers, including the Housatonic, are open to fishing year-round with catch limits; smaller rivers and brooks have catch limits of three after Sept. 11 and eight after April 1. Find a list of fishing seasons and limits here. 

Berkshire County has scenic places to sail this fall as well as stand on the edge and cast out.

Clark Art Screens 'Run Lola Run'

Images Celebrates Final Weekend of Current Theater

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Images Cinema will be temporarily closing its main theater starting in October, and is celebrating the space and cinema with a series of events the weekend of Sept. 26 - 28.

Images is in the process of its Look Forward Capital Campaign to raise money to complete a major renovation of its main theater, carve out a second theater space, and outfit both spaces with brand-new sound and projection equipment, as well as new, comfortable seats.
