WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Community Chest is accepting applications for the 2024 Mary and Henry Flynt Grants and Fund for Williamstown Grants. Applications are due by Oct. 15, 2024. Both grant cycles will run concurrently and be administered by the Williamstown Community Chest as a pilot program with Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. The partnership aims to streamline the process for nonprofit applicants and ensure strong local expertise on the grant review committee.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Big changes have come to the Milne Public Library as the Main Street institution celebrates its 150th year. Milne Trustees vice chair Jared Della Rocca appeared before the Select Board on Tuesday to detail some of the new initiatives that expand both the library's mission and its access to the community. One of the most noticeable changes is that the library's doors are, effectively, open six more hours per week. In past years, the library has been open until 8 p.m. only one day per week, Wednesdays.  WILLIAMSTOWN — The North Berkshire Contra Dance returns to Williamstown on Saturday, Sept. 28, with a community contra dance taught by caller Jeff Walker and New England-style fiddle music. Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old, some are recently composed. Everyone is welcome. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive at 7:30 pm for an introductory lesson.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Community Chest will hold its sixteenth Fun Run on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024. This community event consists of two races, a 5K run and a 1-mile kids' run/family walk. The Fun Run races are open to everyone, veteran or first-time runners, and daily or occasional walkers. Families with pets and strollers are also welcome to participate. Both race events begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Williamstown Youth Center, 66 School Street. After more than two hours of discussion, the board voted 3-1 to select Neely after two rounds of voting where the four remaining elected officials were deadlocked, 2-2, on how to replace Andrew Hogeland until May's election. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School District is working to address a deficiency identified in the commonwealth's recent Special Education and Civil Rights Monitoring Report. The three-school district last spring went through a periodic review by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education that focused on standards ranging from "licensure and professional development" to "parent/student/community engagement" to "equal access."
