Williamstown Fire District Moving to Acquire New OPM for Station ProjectBy Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires Staff

 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — More than two years after choosing an owner's project manager for its new station project, the Fire District is set to move forward with a new OPM. Prudential Committee Chair David Moresi mentioned the move during his report to the annual Fire District meeting on Tuesday at Williamstown Elementary School. "We are very pleased with the most recent [construction cost] estimates projected, as well as what we consider to be a significant cost savings by soliciting for a new OPM," Moresi said during his address to the meeting. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute is one of more than 2,000 museums nationwide participating in the Blue Star Museums initiative, a program that provides free admission to active-duty U.S. military personnel and their families this summer. The 2023 program begins on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20, 2023, and ends on Labor Day, Monday, September 4, 2023. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Fire District voters Tuesday will be asked to approve a $524,000 fiscal year 2024 operating budget and 10 other items on an 11-article warrant at the annual district meeting. The budget is up 6.3 percent from the $492,882 approved by district voters last spring for the current fiscal year. It comes up midway through the meeting, set for 7:30 p.m. in the gymnasium at Williamstown Elementary School. The two largest drivers of the bottom line increase are the maintenance and operation line item and management services.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Williamstown's Alex White was the first runner across the finish line at Sunday's MountainOne Steel Rail Marathon on the Ashuwilticook Trail. White maintained a 6 minute, 26 second per mile pace over the 26.2 mile course from Pittsfield to Adams and back. He reached the finish line in 2:48.42.41 to finish 5-1/2 minutes ahead of the rest of the other 72 runners who finished the event's marathon division. The fastest finisher in the marathon was Stephen Gulley of Billingham, the event's lone hand pedaler, who finished in 2:20:05.36.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Northern Berkshire Habitat for Humanity's shed raffle has returned. The 8-by-10 garden shed, funded by an anonymous donor, built by the McCann Carpentry Program students, and decorated by the Northern Berkshire Habitat for Humanity construction crew, will be on display on Main Street in Williamstown, across from the end of Water Street, in front of the former Masonic Lodge at the end of May. All proceeds will go toward building the non-profit's next home. Raffle tickets may be purchased online until June 30 at go.rallyup.com/nbhfh23. Tickets cost $5 apiece, five for $20, and 14 for $40.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.— Williamstown Elementary School teacher Jenna Dickinson was selected for the May edition of our Teacher of the Month series, which will run for the next 12 months in partnership with Berkshire Community College. Dickinson grew up in Williamstown her whole life and attended Williamstown Elementary School. She has since returned to her alma mater to teach kindergarten. As soon as she entered the classroom to decorate earlier this year she felt like she was home, she said. SALISBURY, Md. – Kayla Chang went 3-for-4 at the plate and stole three bases to help the Williams College softball team Friday beat Framingham State, 9-4, in an elimination game at the NCAA Division III tournament. Sadie Leonard earned the win in the circle, striking out 12 and walking just two. Framingham State’s Gwen Carpenter, a graduate of Mount Everett, went 1-for-2 with an RBI in the loss. Carpenter finished her junior season with the Rams batting .393 with a team-best eight home runs. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Fire District this month received approval from two town bodies for the "early site work" planned in conjunction with the construction of a new station on Main Street. In separate sessions with the Conservation Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, fire district officials got the OK for a "cut and fill" project that will raise the grade of the area planned for construction to bring it roughly to the same elevation as Main Street (Route 2).
