 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School Committee Thursday discussed a change to its policy on public comment at School Committee meetings in light of a recent Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruling. Jose Constantine, who chairs the School Committee's Policy and Governance Subcommittee, explained to his colleagues that the state's highest court has decided that school committees cannot enforce rules that strive to maintain civility at its sessions. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Driven by low utilization and pharmaceutical reimbursement rates, Berkshire Health Systems has made the necessary decision to close the Williamstown Apothecary, effective Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024. Williamstown Apothecary patient prescriptions will be transferred to the Berkshire Community Pharmacy at North Adams, with the availability of free at-home delivery or free delivery by mail. Affected staff will be offered similar positions within Berkshire Health Systems. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Planning Board last week discussed a way to allow geothermal wells in town while protecting the aquifer that supplies drinking water to the town of 7,000. The issue came up this summer when Public Works Director Craig Clough informed the board of a resident’s plan to install a geothermal system in their home in the Water Resource District. Clough pointed out that there currently are no regulations at the state or local level for where such systems can go.  DALTON, Mass. – The annual CRA Just for Kicks Soccer Tournament this year named the 7th/8th grade divisions of the tournament the Dan McMahon division in recognition of McMahon’s impact on youth soccer in Berkshire County over his 35 year career at the CRA. McMahon was the creator of the Just for Kicks Tournament 27 years ago and came to present the winners of the divisions, the McMahon Cup. More than 70 teams competed in eight divisions over the course of two days on the holiday weekend at Wahconah Regional High School and Nessacus Middle School.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board last week discussed a policy to guide decisions on whether to accept private ways for snow plowing by town personnel. Actually, the town has an existing policy, and the Department of Public Works currently plows 10 private roads under that policy, which was enacted by the board in late 1980s. "The document could be out there somewhere, but we can't find it," DPW Director Craig Clough told the board.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The North Berkshire Contra Dance will hold its monthly community contra dance on Saturday, Oct. 12, with live fiddle music, and all dances taught by caller Quena Crain. Come alone or with a partner; most people change partners for each dance throughout the evening. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive by 7:30 for instruction in the basics.
