That is when Craig Pedercini is set to turn 65 and retire from a department he has served for 37 years — the last 22 as chief. Williams crushed the field at the 24-team regional championship in New London, Conn., to qualify for the national championship. The recent departure of Andrew Hogeland left vacant the position of vice chair on the five-person board.
