Neal Touts Federal Aid to Support Renovation of Symbol of Democracy

Clark Art Institute Offers School Vacation Week Activities

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute will host activities for children and families during the Massachusetts public school system’s April vacation week.   From Tuesday, April 22, through Thursday, April 24, landscape drawing stations will be available throughout the museum, featuring various drawing mediums. Clark Art Foraging Walks Series

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute's popular series of foraging walks returns this April.    On the fourth Tuesday of the month from April through October, naturalist and wild edibles enthusiast Arianna Alexsandra Collins of the Hoosic River Watershed Association and Offerings for Community Building guides visitors across the Clark's 140-acre campus in a one-hour talk. SVHC President Dee Announces Retirement

Poetry Event to Celebrate Earth Day and the Hoosic River Watershed

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A poetry event focused on the Hoosic River Watershed will take place on Thursday, April 24, at 4:30 PM.

Poets and individuals interested in poetry of all ages are invited to participate in this Earth Day celebration.

The event will begin at the Mohican Recreational Path – Syndicate Road Trailhead parking lot. Participants will walk along the Hoosic bike trail in Williamstown to seek poetic inspiration. Writing prompts will be available for those who wish to use them. Time will be allotted for participants to share their poems, phrases, or other creative expressions inspired by the river. The program is scheduled to last for 1.5 hours.

Mount Greylock School Committee Affirms Protection for All Students, Staff

PFAS Issue Splits Williamstown Select Board on Sewer Rate

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — About 20 residents and the majority of the Select Board on Monday sent a message to the Hoosac Water Quality District: importing sludge and converting it to compost is a bad deal and unethical.   In a rare break from past practice, a divided Select Board voted against recommending that town meeting OK the HWQD's proposed fiscal year 2026 sewer rate.   The district's plan to accept sludge from other communities and sell off the resulting compost through waste hauler Casella became an issue this winter when the HWQD presented its proposed FY26 sewer rate to the town's Finance Committee.   The district, a joint venture of Williamstown,

Earth Day Walk and Discussion Planned Along the Hoosic River

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A walk and discussion event concerning the Hoosic River will be held on Thursday, April 17, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The event is organized in recognition of Earth Day.

Participants are invited to walk along the river and discuss any questions, concerns, or hopes they have for the Hoosic River. The gathering point will be at The Spruces in Williamstown, MA, in the parking lot adjacent to the garden, at 5:00 PM.

The event will be facilitated by Arianna Alexsandra Collins, a naturalist educator and the executive director of the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA).

To the Editor:

While Williamstown builds a $20 million fire station, Bob Menicocci and the Finance Committee expect us to be up in arms about $500,000 to deal with a very real environmental problem in a responsible fashion — toxic sludge.

Waste water treatment in Williamstown yields effluent (discharged to the Hoosic River where there is a PFAS advisory on fish from the Mass Department of Health) and sludge — a concentrated byproduct. The proposal before us is to start taking toxic sludge from other towns because the town wants to lower costs and we have the capacity.

But what is the trade-off? The trade-off is increased liability for Williamstown who would become a
