State Fire Marshal: Ready to Fall Back? When You Change Your Clocks, Check Your Alarms!

STOW, Mass. — With the end of daylight savings time coming on Nov. 5, Massachusetts fire officials issued a seasonal reminder to check your smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms and change the batteries when you change your clocks.   "Working smoke and CO alarms are crucial home safety tools," said State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine. "As we 'fall back' this weekend, be sure you have the best protection by putting fresh alkaline batteries in alarms that use them and replacing alarms that are out of date."   Today's smoke and carbon monoxide alarms have the manufacturing date printed on the back of the device. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — After seven years, controversy about the choice of surface, dozens of meetings by several committees and several disappointments from over-budget cost estimates and bids, Mount Greylock Regional School appears to finally be getting a track and multi-sport playing field.   By a vote of 5-0, the School Committee on Thursday decided to accept the recommendation of its Field and Track Project Committee to enter negotiations with William. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Championship matchups are set for the Northern Berkshire Sports Academy's fall basketball season.   The title games are set for Sunday morning at Drury High School.   In the A Division, the NBSA will play Giardina and Bresett PC at 9 a.m. Then, the Saboteurs will take on Adelson and Company in the B Division final.   All four teams advanced with semi-final wins on Oct. 29 at the Armory.   B Division Adelson and Company 66, NBSA 48 Jon Gregory scored 31 points to lead Adelson and Company. Mount Greylock Track and Field Bids Come in on Target

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School Committee could vote as early as Thursday evening to award a construction contract for a new multi-sport field and eight-lane track at the middle-high school.   And if all goes according to plan, work on the project could begin before the end of the calendar year.   The district's Field and Track Project Committee on Wednesday looked at three bids on the scaled down project to build a natural grass field ringed by a running track on land just east of the district's administration building.   Two of the bids came in below the $3.6 million the committee was targeting after its latest round of

Williamstown Looking for Clarity on Dog Leashing Rules

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday agreed to have the town manager put together a working group to sort out and clarify the town's bylaws on dog leashing.   Robert Menicocci came to the board seeking clarifications of "ambiguities" in town code that came up after last spring's town meeting debate on a proposal to require dogs to be leashed when off their owner's property in the general residence zone.   Specifically, there is a bylaw — which the May 2023 town meeting article sought to amend — that requires dogs to be on leash or under "voice control" in the district. Drury's McGrath Leads Springfield College Offense

Clark Art Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Manton Research Center
