Guest Column: Aug. 31 Overdose Awareness Day

Thursday, International Overdose Awareness Day, is the world's largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died from overdose and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind.

In Berkshire County, programs are planned in North Adams and Pittsfield.

In North Adams, the community will gather at City Hall at 5 p.m. Flags will mark each death, and people are welcome to bring (or make on site) signs to raise awareness and speak to their own loss. At 6 p.m., we will gather for a vigil to remember those lost. Bereavement resources will be available from Support After a Death by Overdose (SADOD). Narcan will be available. We will also have

Williamstown Artist's Major Arcana Paintings and Tarot Deck at Wild Soul River

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Original artwork from Jane Hudson's Major Arcana series will be displayed at Wild Soul River, located at 248 Cole Avenue, from Sept. 1 to Dec. 24.   Timed with the autumnal equinox, Wild Soul River will host an experiential opening on Sept. 22, 2023, 4-7 p.m.    These paintings, inspired by the Major Arcana cards in the traditional Rider-Waite tarot deck, are also the inspiration for a Major Arcana-specific 22-card tarot deck released by Hudson this summer with Wild Soul River.   According to a press release, Hudson has been a practitioner of the Tarot since her 20's. No Unplanned Interruption in Williamstown Bridge Project

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Despite appearances, work on a Main Street bridge replacement has not been suspended or fallen behind schedule, a town official confirmed on Monday.   The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is replacing the span that carries Main Street (Route 2) traffic over the Green River on the east side of town.   At the outset, MassDOT said the replacement project would go into 2026.   With active construction at the site slowed in recent weeks, some have speculated that the project has been paused.   On Monday, Town Manager Robert Menicocci explained why there is no road work at the moment.   "Right now the project is in the phase

Williamstown Panel Looking at How the Town Uses Debt

Williamstown Prudential Committee Increases Fees, Rejects Residential Tax Exemption

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Prudential Committee on Wednesday approved new fees for the Fire District's inspection services and followed a familiar path when deciding how to distribute the property tax burden to support the district's operation.   Following up on a request he made at the committee's July meeting, Chief Craig Pedercini asked the panel's permission to increase the fee for inspecting a residential property at the time of sale and institute fees for the business inspections the department conducts on an annual basis.   On a vote of 4-0 with Chair David Moresi not attending, the committee voted to raise the smoke alarm and carbon monoxide inspection

Williamstown Group Seeking to Install 'Ancestors' at Field Park

Mount Greylock Access Roads closed for Maintenance

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. Sperry Road and the parking area on Rockwell Road in Mount Greylock State Reservation in the Towns of New Ashford and Williamstown will be partially closed for maintenance .    The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will restrict access to Sperry Road and close the parking area on Rockwell Road at Mount Greylock State Reservation in the Towns of New Ashford and Williamstown from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to accommodate road improvement work.    Sperry Road is expected to reopen for weekend hikers.     The closures will continue through Sept. 22 excluding weekends.

Thunder Three-Peat, Kraken Win Title in Debut Season in BABL
