Letter: Williamstown Planning Board Proposals
Letter to the Editor,
05:00PM / Wednesday, June 08, 2022

To the Editor:

How many citizens voted at the last town election? How many will vote at the town meeting? Town meeting is quaint AND irrevocably broken.

A holistic approach to town zoning is far preferable. Selectively passing one or two of the failed Planning Board's proposed zoning changes amounts to spot zoning. All related articles should be tabled or voted down.

Here is something to consider if you think the GR proposals, at minimum, are harmless. If you own land that can be divided into two or more now buildable parcels, guess what? Your property taxes will be jacked up because now, your property is "more valuable!" Voila!

These ill-thought out zoning changes have

The meeting will resume at 7 p.m. that Tuesday at a larger venue, the gymnasium at Mount Greylock Regional School.   Prior to the May meeting, a resident obtained a Berkshire County Superior Court order

By Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires.com Sports

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Jon Meacham is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author who has made a career of studying and teaching about American history.   On Sunday morning, he gave the graduating seniors at Williams College the short course, and a lot of it was pretty bleak.   “We’re living in American democracy’s hour of maximum danger,” Meacham told the graduates and friends gathered on the college’s library quad. “That is not hyperbole. It is an age of declining trust and growing extremism, of spreading lies and an erosion of truth and a primacy of brute power and a deadly dearth of compassion and of

Staff Reports,
03:59PM / Tuesday, May 31, 2022
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town is asking users of Cole Field, Linear Park and the Spruces to heed warning signs and respect workers building the Mohawk Bike Path.   The town reports that people have been "removing sedimentation controls, survey markers and signage" and using profanity toward workers on the job site.   "If this pattern of destructive and abusive behavior continues, it will be necessary for the town to close the Spruces and other access points for the duration of the summer," according to a news release on the letterhead of interim Town Manager Charlie Blanchard.   The bike trail, which runs from Syndicate Road near North Street to the
