SVHC Summer Gala Raises Record Funds

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The Summer Gala—the Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) Foundation's signature fundraising event was held for the first time in two years on the evening of June 11 at the Hubbell Homestead in Bennington.    The event hosted more than 400 people and raised more than $450,000. This is the highest amount ever raised at an SVHC event, according to SVHC. Funds raised will support the Vision 2020 project to renovate and expand the Emergency Department and  Regional Cancer Center.   "The outpouring of support for our hospital and the exceptional physicians, nurses, and staff was incredibly inspirational," said SVHC's Vice

Williamstown Town Meeting Includes Call for 'Equanimity'

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Two current and one former member of the Select Board used last Tuesday's annual town meeting to appeal for more civil discourse in town government.   The tone for the evening was set when Anne O'Connor received the Scarborough-Salomon-Flynt Community Service Award.   O'Connor, who served two terms on the Select Board before choosing not to run for re-election last May was singled out by the award committee largely for her efforts to promote environmental causes.   She acknowledged that in her remarks before speaking at length about the conversation the community has been having around issues of race and equity since the summer of 2020,

Williamstown, Lenox Soccer Clubs Dominate Tournament

LENOX, Mass. -- Host Lenox and the Williamstown Youth Soccer Club each took home three titles from Saturday's Berkshire County Youth Soccer League Spring Tournament at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School.   Williamstown squads earned championships in the Boys B-Cup division for grades 5 and 6, the Girls MTOC division for grades 5 and 6 and the Boys MTOC division for grades 7 and 8.   Lenox teams were victorious in the Girls B-Cup for grades 5 and 6, the Boys B-Cup for grades 7 and 8 and the Girls division for grades 7 and 8.   The seventh division winner came from Berkshire HIlls, which took home the Boys MTOC division for grades 5 and 6.   Teams from Adams,

Clark Art Presents Lecture for 'Rodin in the United States'

Williamstown Town Meeting Sends Zoning Bylaws Back to Planning Board

Fire Officials Urge Residents to Leave Fireworks to the Professionals

STOW, Mass. — Massachusetts State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey and State Police Colonel Christopher S. Mason are reminding residents to leave fireworks to the professionals this summer.   Massachusetts fire departments reported more than 900 fires related to illegal fireworks between 2012 and 2021, officials said.
