Clark Art Airs Production of 'Les Contes d'Hoffman'

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Metropolitan Opera's broadcast of "Les Contes d'Hoffman" airs at the Clark Art Institute on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 pm in the first installment of the 2024–25 season of The Met: Live in HD.    This award-winning series of live, high-definition cinema simulcasts features the full live performance along with backstage interviews and commentary. Wiffle Ball Tournament to Benefit Scholarship Fund

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The fifth annual DZ24 Wiffle Ball Tournament is Saturday, Oct. 19, at Deming Park in Pittsfield.   Teams of four will compete against each other based on age. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each age group.   The cost is $10 per person or $40 per team. Williamstown Con Comm Reviews Revised Summer Street Proposal

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Conservation Commission on Thursday reviewed a refined version of the site plan for a planned four-home subdivision off Summer Street.   Earlier this year, Northern Berkshire Habitat for Humanity sought and received an order of conditions from the Con Comm to build four single-family homes on the parcel currently owned by the town's Affordable Housing Trust.   That order was appealed by abutters to the parcel to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, which last month received a revised set of plans from Northern Berkshire Habitat.   As part of its review process, the MassDEP Western Regional Office asked the Con Comm

Clark Art Screens 'The Three Musketeers: Part I D'Artagnan'

Henry Flynt Grants and Fund for Williamstown Grants Available

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Community Chest is accepting applications for the 2024 Mary and Henry Flynt Grants and Fund for Williamstown Grants.    Applications are due by Oct. 15, 2024.   Both grant cycles will run concurrently and be administered by the Williamstown Community Chest as a pilot program with Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. Williamstown Library Expands Hours, Offerings

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Big changes have come to the Milne Public Library as the Main Street institution celebrates its 150th year.   Milne Trustees vice chair Jared Della Rocca appeared before the Select Board on Tuesday to detail some of the new initiatives that expand both the library's mission and its access to the community.   One of the most noticeable changes is that the library's doors are, effectively, open six more hours per week.   In past years, the library has been open until 8 p.m. only one day per week, Wednesdays. Community Contra Dance in Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN — The North Berkshire Contra Dance returns to Williamstown on Saturday, Sept. 28, with a community contra dance taught by caller Jeff Walker and New England-style fiddle music.   Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old, some are recently composed.    Everyone is welcome. Williamstown Community Chest Annual Fun Run

Williamstown Select Board Names Neely to Interim Seat

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A divided Select Board on Tuesday appointed Matt Neely to an interim seat on the five-member panel.   After more than two hours of discussion, the board voted 3-1 to select Neely after two rounds of voting where the four remaining elected officials were deadlocked, 2-2, on how to replace Andrew Hogeland until May's election.   Chair Jane Patton and Vice Chair Jeffrey Johnson argued repeatedly that the board and town would benefit most from having an experienced former member of the board serve the interim role for the next seven months and voted initially to name Hugh Daley, a former three-term Select Board member who was one of three applicants for
