Dixon Elected to Williamstown Select Board

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Shana Dixon said Tuesday night that she had a sense during the day that the Select Board election was going her way.   Not because of what people said to her, but because of what they did.   "You know what people [going into the polling place] did?" Williamstown Board of Health Endorses Smoking Ban Proposal

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Board of Health on Monday voted to "strongly support" the passage of a town meeting warrant article that would ban smoking in much of the town's multi-family housing stock.   Article 30 on the May 22 meeting warrant would disallow smoking or vaping tobacco products inside any multi-family dwelling with an exemption for owner-occupied buildings with four or fewer units.   William Raymond of Stratton Road pitched the idea to the board back in March, and the Select Board last month voted, 4-1, to recommend town meeting passage, an

Clark Art Institute to Present Free Outdoor Concert with Alexander Turnquist and 75 Dollar Bill

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute will host a free outdoor concert featuring Alexander Turnquist and 75 Dollar Bill on Sunday, May 18, at 5 p.m.

The performance will take place on the Moltz Terrace of the Lunder Center at Stone Hill.

Alexander Turnquist, a multi-instrumentalist and composer from Kingston, NY, is known for his use of the twelve-string acoustic guitar.

75 Dollar Bill, a New York-based duo consisting of Che Chen on guitar and Rick Brown on drums, performs music that blends improvisation with elements of jazz and psychedelia. Their 2019 album, "I Was Real", was recognized as the top album of the year by The Wire.

Clark Art Institute to Host 'Reflections' Gallery Talk

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute will present "Reflections," a monthly gallery talk, on Tuesday, May 20, at 11 a.m.

Participants will meet in the Museum Pavilion to engage with works of art from the Clark's collection.

During the program, a Clark educator will guide the group in a contemplative exploration of one or two artworks, encouraging observation and participation to explore meaning and raise questions. This program offers an opportunity for close looking and introspection, differing from a conventional gallery tour.

The event is free, but advance registration is required due to limited capacity. Additional information and registration are available

Lola Greene Legacy Scholarship Applications Available

Clark Art Institute to Air Metropolitan Opera's "Salome"

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute will present a broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera’s production of "Salome" on Saturday, May 17, at 1 p.m.

The screening is part of the 2024–25 season of The Met: Live in HD and will take place in the auditorium located in the Manton Research Center.

The broadcast will feature the live performance, including backstage interviews and commentary. New Williamstown Elementary School Principal Named

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The deputy director of academics of a Holyoke charter school will be the new principal of Williamstown Elementary School starting on July 1.   Interim Superintendent Joseph Bergeron made the announcement during Thursday's School Committee meeting, saying that he had just finished sharing the news via email with the school's families.   "Benjamin Torres will be joining us from Holyoke Community Charter School, where he has spent the last 14 years as a school leader and, before that, as a teacher," Bergeron said. Remedy Hall to Host Open House at New Location

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The CIAO Soccer Hall of Fame induction and scholarship banquet was held on Thursday, May 8, at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.   The 2025 inductees were honored, and 21 scholarships were presented to one boy and one girl senior soccer player from each high school in the county (chosen by their high school coaches).      Committee Chairmen Al Belanger and Patrick West introduced inductees and scholarship winners at the event. North Berkshire Contra Dance Scheduled for Saturday

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.— The North Berkshire Contra Dance will host its monthly community contra dance on Saturday, May 10, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The event will feature live music by Joy Factor, a Massachusetts-based trio, and dance instruction by Albany caller Peter Stix.

The contra dance will take place in the Community Hall of the First Congregational Church, located at 906 Main St., Williamstown. Instruction will begin at 7:30 p.m. The admission fee is pay-as-you-can, with a suggested range of $12 to $20.
