It is a legacy of service that, for current Executive Director Michael Williams, is summed up in the story of one longtime member of the WYC family. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Prudential Committee on Wednesday voted 3-1 to not seek an exemption that would allow the fire chief to continue in his role past his 65th birthday. Fire Chief Craig Pedercini had asked the panel, which governs the district, to seek the exemption to prevent him from having to retire in March of next year. On a vote of 4-0, with Jeffrey Johnson absent, the board agreed to contribute about $66,000 — what remains uncommitted from the town's original ARPA grant of about $2 million — as requested by the Mount Greylock School Committee.  Wahconah Regional High School graduate and UMass Boston sophomore Aryianna Garceau earned all-America honors in the 100-meter hurdles at May's NCAA Division III Championships. Garceau took sixth in the finals with a time of 14.05 seconds after qualifying for the finals with a time of 13.97, which broke a 35-year school record. In earning all-America honors, Garceau became the 20th Beacon to achieve that honor and the first since 2018. Earlier in May, Garceau was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association's all-Region team.
